Shelter from the Sun

When we were in Arizona in mid-April, the thermometer reached 100˚F. A wee bit hot when hiking through desert terrain at the Boyce Thompson Arboretum near Superior, Arizona. We were happy to find this log ramada which gave us a respite from the harsh sun and revived our sprits. The roof was ingeniously made from the long branches of the ocotillo cactus.

Mumma Done Tol Me, You can’t rollerskate in a Buffalo Herd and Don’t walk through the Desert in the sun, but your saved there is a car just off to the right there. Great HOT Shot.

Not a car, but one of the Arboretum’s display buildings. But you are right, we sure didn’t wander too far from civilization!

One doesn’t wander off the paths in this type of country. I learned the hard way that the volcanic rock type of soil can be very slippery. I sat down on a few baby cactus and twisted my ankle. Hopping about in the hot weather isn’t much fun, either. Isn’t Ramada a beautiful word? It rolls off the tongue so nicely. Gives good shade, too.

Another postcard perfect photograph!! Glad you were revived after your respite. The only way I was revived in that heat was to go inside!!

Wonderful shot, Bo. The cloudless sky seems seems to convey the heat and the almost silhouetted ramada gives us the feeling of cool relief.

Very cool angle on this shot – I like the way it juts into the sky.

I’ve been there. A couple of times. It only got into the 90’s on my visits, also in April.

    Nice shot.

I love the way you’ve framed this with the ramada(it is a lovely word) Nicely done, after a Madison winter 100 is a bit much I would think.
