Red Mud

The scenery at Palo Duro Canyon State Park in the Texas Panhandle is extra-ordinary. All that you expect in Texas–sprawling, massive, big-skied. So what was I attracted to?

The dried mud deposited in a recent flash flood, now curling in the heat.

I would have guessed Death Valley ;). Very nice. Have you tried a B/W version? Which one looks better?

I can see a Kangaroo, a stingray etc, it’s like looking at cloud shapes.

We were at Palo Dura a few years ago…I still talk about how you drive for miles and miles across completely flat ground, and then, suddenly, the canyon opens up before you. The texture and colors of the mud in your photo are intriguing: in one way, it almost looks like the surface of an alien planet.

I’m learning so much about places I’ve never been just by visiting blogs. This mud looks fascinating!
